A Legacy of Conservation Healing, and Adventure

From humble beginnings to a thriving sanctuary, Kawsay Amazon Jungle Lodge has grown into a place where nature, healing, and community come together. Learn more about our story, our commitment to conservation, and the people behind this unique jungle experience.

Our Story

Milestones of Growth and Impact

Founded on a passion for preserving the rich biodiversity of the Amazon and fostering meaningful connections with the natural world, Kawsay Amazon Jungle Lodge was established as a haven for explorers, nature enthusiasts, and researchers alike. Our journey began with a deep commitment to not only showcase the incredible beauty of the Amazon but to ensure its preservation for generations to come.

A Legacy of Conservation Healing, and Adventure

Over the years, we’ve grown from a small, intimate lodge to an internationally recognized retreat and research center. From expanding our facilities to include luxury cabins that blend seamlessly with the landscape, to launching groundbreaking ecological research programs, we’ve stayed true to our founding principles of sustainability, education, and holistic well-being.

Today, Kawsay is more than just a place to stay. It’s a gateway to transformation, offering our guests the opportunity to disconnect from the modern world and reconnect with nature, themselves, and others.

Historical Timeline Key milestones in the Development of Kawsay Amazon Jungle Lodge

A Vision of Conservation and Connection

In the early days, Kawsay started as a humble eco-lodge nestled deep within the jungle, driven by the belief that sustainable tourism could be a force for good. From the beginning, our mission was clear: to offer our guests an immersive experience that respects the local environment and communities. This meant working closely with indigenous leaders, conservationists, and local artisans to build something truly unique—a sanctuary where people and nature could thrive together.

The Calling: Leaving the Known World Behind

It started with a pull—a calling impossible to ignore. Leaving behind the familiar landscapes of the United States, we set our sights on the vast unknown of the Amazon. My wife Ana, our children, and I stepped away from our lives, careers, and everything we knew to answer a call that echoed with purpose. Peru wasn’t just a destination; it was a mission. This journey was about healing, guided by something greater than ourselves—a love for life, humanity, and creation. So, we left everything behind, trusting that the path forward, no matter how difficult, would lead to something

Into the Unknown: Embracing the Amazon Jungle

The Amazon embraced us with a wild beauty and a powerful, untamed energy. But the journey wasn’t easy. Peru demanded resilience and trust, especially as we connected with local shamans and indigenous communities who opened doors to deeper truths and ancient wisdom. Every day felt like a new challenge—cultural shifts, language barriers, and the formidable jungle itself. Our journey wasn’t just geographical; it was spiritual. The jungle tested us, asking if we were truly ready to be a part of this world, to commit to healing and building something far greater than ourselves.

Timber and Resolve: Building with Heart & Grit

Building the lodge was an exercise in patience, grit, and vision. We didn’t rush; we couldn’t. Every decision, every structure was deliberate, reflecting our commitment to sustainability and respect for the land. We sourced materials from Iquitos, making sure everything was certified, responsibly harvested, and in harmony with the environment. There were days of sweat and exhaustion, setbacks and tough choices, but there was no turning back. This was a foundation built on more than wood and nails—it was built on sacrifice and a dedication to creating something enduring for others and for the earth.

Forging Bonds: United by Purpose & Community

The heart of this project wasn’t just the land; it was the people. We worked hand in hand with local villagers, who became more than workers—they became family. These were the people who shared their culture, stories, and laughter with us. We learned as much from them as they did from us, and together, we grew. We were allies, united by a shared vision of harmony between people and nature. For every room that was built, there was a bond that strengthened, an alliance rooted in mutual respect, care, and love for the world we were creating together.

Planting Roots: Nurturing the Land & Legacy

Nature became our ally. We planted over 500 fruit trees, palms, and plants, creating an ecosystem that offered sustenance to both humans and wildlife. Every tree was a commitment—a promise to the land and to future generations. We wanted a place where humans and animals could thrive side by side, where food wasn’t just for us but for the monkeys, birds, and all life that called this place home. It was as much about giving back as it was about growth—a labor of love, one seed and one tree at a time.

The Healing Sanctuary: Transformation in the Heart of the Amazon Jungle

Over time, the lodge became a sanctuary—a space where people came to heal, often in ways they never expected. We saw guests walk in burdened by traumas and leave with a sense of renewal, having rediscovered parts of themselves they thought were lost. Working alongside the shamans, we witnessed transformations that went beyond words. There were tears, struggles, breakthroughs, and an unbreakable resilience that we shared with every soul who came through our doors. Through the beauty and pain, the lodge became a haven, a place where healing happened naturally, powerfully, and in harmony with the jungle around us.

A New Dawn: Expanding the Lodge’s Purpose

After years of facilitating healing, we felt a shift. The original work was coming to an end, evolving into something new. The lodge had grown beyond just a healing center; it was a place of retreat, a sanctuary for families, researchers, and seekers. It was a hard realization—letting go of one chapter to open another. But in every end, there’s a beginning. Now, the lodge stands ready to welcome explorers, teachers, and students, each finding their own journey within these walls, their own purpose woven into the lodge’s next chapter.

The Future

Legacy of Love: A Haven for Generations to Come

Today, our vision reaches beyond the present. The lodge is fully dedicated to sustainability and conservation. We’ve committed to using solar power, are working to complete a fish pond, and have turned our 600-acre reserve into a protected haven where animals can live freely. Over the years, we’ve seen the return of birds, monkeys, and even species thought to be long gone. This is our legacy—not just for us but for every living thing that calls this place home. We’ve brought the “elixir” back, the gift of harmony with nature, and we’re sharing it with anyone who walks through these doors. This story continues, built on love, sacrifice, and a profound respect for life.

Perfect experience, unique hosts An incredible experience to have in your life. We were a small group (3 people) and that was perfect. We immediately understood well, in addition to the host and the respectful staff. William, Ana and Greg made the experience perfect. Not only as hosts, but also humanly they have enriched us. We had long and uplifting conversations and laughed a lot. Really very sympathetic and a pity that I had to leave already! The staff was heartfelt and did their job perfectly. The food was varied and delicious, and without spices. Not only through Ayahuasca, but also through the experiences of William and Greg, I was able to learn a lot. This is THE place to be if you want to get to know Ayahuasca. For the next experience I will definitely come back here. The shamans were excellent and very respectful. Spending time with them really inspired me. From the beginning to the end I felt very comfortable. The experience will not only stay in my memory forever, but also in my heart. Thank you!

The most impactful, important, loving, learning and beautiful part of my life and part of my journey. My loving father runs the retreat with the rest of my beautiful family. And the staff and workers are such beautiful and nice people I’ve ever met and taught me so many things! I haven’t seen my father since I was 11 years old and I came to visit him when I was 20 years old. 10 years without seeing my family and it was an amazing time with them! Aswell as the beautiful medicine of Ayahuasca and San Pedro, I never came to Peru seeking to do this but only to see my family but deciding to do it was amazing. It changed my life so much and gave me so much growth and much self love❤️. It helped me so much! I highly recommend taking a trip there if you want to experience a beautiful and loving time feeling like family and enjoying life, aswell as learning so much and healing!! God bless love you all!

Life changing experience for the better!! I can’t begin to state how wonderful this experience has been. This is the authentic ayahuasca experience this month was my third visit to Kawsay and let me tell you the shins here are doing incredible work the connection is there the love is there the lessons they help you understand from your ceremonies is all there. William is an incredible host and facilitator. He lives here with his family. They are all part of the experience the staff everyone is family here and it is a wonderful feeling. There’s so much unconditional love present at all times. The food is also incredible. We had a strict diet while we’re using the medicine but the food was still delicious and nutritious and I always felt that I had what I needed and there’s always someone to talk to and ask . I could give me a challenging experience, but using these medicines at Won and San Pedro a life-changing I can say this place in this experience over the course of two years three visits has fundamentally changed my life I want to keep the review about the place and how wonderful and big and spacious and how many rooms and how clean it is and the area where we have the ceremonies is beautiful and comfortable and the staff is very attentive and we also go on these wonderful excursions to nearby villages and monkey island and even got to go on a hike to a swimming hole And there’s so many things to do and there’s such a wonderful activities. That aspect of it alone is worth this trip and this retreat. It’s almost like the medicine and the healing is an added bonus. I feel that I’m with family here now. This place is become a huge part of my life and a part of my heart I recommend to anyone who is suffering from things in the past from depression or anxiety. Whatever it is that blocking you from feeling that unconditional love for yourself, and love for others, and preventing you from living the fold of your life. This is a place that can help you with those things I’ve seen in myself I’ve seen it others this place allowed me to quit using drugs. The medicine allowed me to quit having sex with strangers in a way that was very destructive for me in my life, and allow me to experiencing healing on levels, but I can cannot even describe. I am a better man because of this experience I live More dedicated life and it’s allowed me to keep my relationships alive and healthy. I had so many doubts about good things in my life before this trip and over the course of one week I have seen the truth and I’ve seen the Unconditional Love and I understand now that I can go back into my life back home and I can love the people on my life the way they deserve to be loved, and I can accept love and I wasn’t able to There’s a feeling of worthiness and deserving that I’ve never held in my heart before and I’m so glad that I returned.

LOVE Kawsay Retreat I’m so happy I chose Kawsay retreat as my first ayahuasca experience. The things I were looking for when booking were authenticity, safety, cleanliness, and support during and after. The shamans that kawsay work with are from an ancient lineage and work in the light of god and come from a place of love and care. They truly healed me. I felt very safe during my entire stay. I felt unconditional love and support in all ceremony’s. During the ceremony’s the staff are always by your side if you need anything. I also felt very safe during all the excursions. The property is very clean and well maintained. Your room is cleaned very well each day and given clean towels. The staff are amazing and I felt like I could leave my belongings out and not be worried. The support I received was constant. Support during ceremony, after and through the entire experience. I feel prepared to return to my daily life with all the tools I have learned along the way and know I can reach out to Kawsay if I need anything.

Unforgettable 15 days at Kawsay In October 2023, I attended a 15-day program at Kawsay, which combined their 7-day and 8-day retreats, including a San Pedro ceremony. The journey to the retreat involved taking two boats from Iquitos, leading us into the depths of the jungle. The retreat itself, surrounded by nature, was a peaceful and beautiful spot. A key figure at the retreat was William, who owns and runs Kawsay. He was with us for the entire duration of the program. William reminded me of a church father - he was a genuinely kind and compassionate person, and his presence added greatly to the experience. The retreat included eight Ayahuasca ceremonies, which were personally impactful. It was a significant and positive experience for me. For those considering a trip to Peru to explore Ayahuasca, I would definitely recommend Kawsay as a good option.

Love is the answer This was an experience that I will remember for the rest of my life. It was tough but rewarding and it brought life lessons that I will carry with me. William, the shamans, his staff and family are incredible people and genuine. The facilities are well kept and I felt safe in their care the entire time. For those that are looking for guidance in their life, this will help you find your way. To be fair, this experience is not a silver bullet for changing your life but it certainly opens the doors to that path, gives you the tools and reinforce your purpose with hard, honest lessons. Love is the answer and Kawsay helped show me how to get there. I'll always be grateful for them and this life altering experience.
